MICHEL KABALAN

Dr. Michel Kabalan is a Lebanese-Portuguese researcher in Arabic philosophy, currently at the University of Porto. His work focuses on diagrammatic thought, as well as the broader Arabic intellectual tradition, with particular attention to philology and medieval manuscript culture.


He has published on visual representations of knowledge, diagrammatic practices in medieval Arabic thought, and Islamic intellectual history, and has been invited to present his research at international institutions in Europe and the United States.
 
Alongside his academic work, Kabalan is also active as a writer. He has contributed articles to various newspapers and has been involved in a number of literary projects. His poetry has been published under the pseudonym Miguel Abalen. He is also an experienced translator working across academic and non-academic contexts, and is fluent in Arabic, French, English, Portuguese, and German. 

Kabalan holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Porto and an M.A. from the American University of Beirut. He has undertaken research at Freie Universität Berlin, the Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies at North Carolina State University, and the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts at the University of Pennsylvania.
